A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes — Hugh Downs
In the book ‘Attitude Is Everything’ by Jeff Keller, the writer explained an essential tip for people who wish to become successful in life: to work on their attitude. He explained that there are two types of attitudes: positive and negative, and both can make an impact on our lifestyles.
Keller explained that our attitude is like a mental filter through which we view the world, and advised people to ensure they keep their mental window clean so they can have a positive attitude towards life. He explained that people with negative attitudes are the ones who find faults in other people, keep criticising things in life and consistently think they can’t do anything. On the other hand, people with a positive attitude are the ones who focus on blessings, remain steadfast and hardworking despite whatever hardships they go through, and keep inspiring others to do the same.
To make a good example of how a positive attitude works, Keller showed the way babies learn to walk. He explained that babies will fall down a lot at first, but they will never blame their parents for it, and keep trying until they get it right in the end. The reason why this happens is because a baby’s mental window is clean. Just like that, every human being is born with a clean mental window, but which later in life gets smudged because of criticisms, rejections, and harsh attitude from others.
But Keller points out that the problem lies in allowing other people to smudge our mental windows and refusing to wash and clean it in order to keep a positive attitude towards the world. When we refuse to keep our mental window clean, it continues to change the way we view our goals and dreams in life. Jeff Keller says that a lot of people face devastating things in life, which is the reason why they have a negative attitude, but the choice is completely their own to change it and refuse to let bad things in life define them.
After reading this book, I came to realise how important it is to own up to our own mistakes, and not let them define our life. Instead of blaming others for our flaws, we need to take responsibility for our life entirely. Learn to gradually overcome them, never desperate to get success overnight, to not get in profit at the start never shows that you are going in loss. Go persistently towards the success of your business. Work hard and wisely. Go step by step. Wait to get success until we get it. Consistency is the only way along hard work that leads you towards success, whether it is a business, a job or any other task.
