A quote by the Classical Greek philosopher Socrates says that life without experience and suffering is not life. I totally validate this statement as it aligns with my philosophy of life, but the general perspective of life which I see around me is nothing but a life filled with conveniences and luxuries.
In today’s age, everyone manifests a life that avoids hardships and obstacles, while knowing the fact that this is not how life operates. Yes, it’s very natural to look for comfort, but such an urge comes with many consequences.
What my perspective and experiences tell me is that life is nothing but a continuous strive — a strive which never guarantees a victorious end, but what it assures is learning. Such learning can mould your perspective in a way that it gives you new eyes — eyes that can see the world from a very unique angle, unlike those who fail to even understand the pattern of life.
What is more unpleasant is that they don’t even try to; they are very comfortable seeing the world from the perspective that society imposes on them. Generally, we don’t feel any harm in following society, but what it does is limit your perspectives to a certain rule book, which neglects the chances of thinking outside the box.
It creates a certain thinking pattern, which then becomes a part of our subconscious mind. We just do things as they are done — we never try to think about how something is really meant to be done.
As Mark Twain said, “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” This means that the perspective followed by the majority isn’t always the right one. I’d also like to quote Aristotle, who said, “The more you learn, the more you realise how much you don’t know.”
So it’s all about learning. Our learning determines our next steps. Our learning makes us who we become. Our learning can make us great. On the other hand, closed eyes aren’t of any use.
We need to take life as a learning opportunity, where we carve our path through our own efforts, with the help of the intellect we develop from learning and observation.
