Pakistan has a very diverse and vibrant music scene, which includes classical, folk, pop, rock, and hip-hop. Despite this rich variety of musical talent across the country, most musicians remain underrated and unnoticed. The main reason behind this is the lack of proper platforms, a structured industry, and opportunities that could help these artists showcase their skills to the masses.
In big cities like Lahore and Karachi, some artists manage to make a name for themselves in the contemporary music scene with access to studios and industry connections. However, artists living in comparatively smaller cities and towns often lack the knowledge, resources, and direction needed to pursue their passion properly.
These musicians, despite having raw, natural talent and creative potential, are often forced to give up on their dreams owing to financial constraints, lack of exposure, and limited access to quality production setups.
One of the main causes is how mainstream media tends to overshadow these underrated artists. TV channels and well-known record labels mainly focus on promoting already established names, making it even more difficult for new voices to get the spotlight. Platforms like Coke Studio and Nescafé Basement have helped some emerging artists gain recognition, but these opportunities are limited and highly selective.
Many underground artists, especially in genres like rap, electronic, and indie, rely on social media platforms like YouTube and Instagram to share their work.
Despite all these challenges, countless musicians continue to create impactful and catchy music independently. Their dedication is proof of the hidden talent Pakistan holds. With proper platforms, mentorship, and financial support, these artists could showcase their abilities more effectively and represent Pakistan on an international level.
As a music artist myself, I believe that Pakistan’s music industry must become more supportive of underrated musicians. This support can help them achieve their milestones, fulfil their dreams, and finally earn the spotlight they deserve.
